The Dog Days of Summer

It has been, ahem, a minute since I blogged. In my defense, I was soaking up inspiration, first from my 15-year-old amazingly talented niece who draws anime characters with personality, dimension, and style way beyond her years. She visited over the Independence Day weekend and amazed me with how much she’s improved since I last saw her work. We’re all so proud and can’t wait to see where her art will take her.

Then, last week was filled with arts festivals, from The Central PA Festival of the Arts to Art in the Orchard (Way Fruit Farm), to the 30th anniversary of the People’s Choice Festival. The more I learn about art, the more I’m in awe of those who share it – not only in their productions, but in the generosity of their guidance. Right smack in the middle of this, I had the great joy of sharing book love at Schlow Library’s BookFest PA with all the fantabulous people who braved the heat (and it was HOT) to partake. We had the great fortune of selling a lot of our books as well as meeting up with author friends. A heart-squishy bonus was hearing how many have read – and continue to read – our sweet Dragons as parents, grandparents, teachers, and yes, teens!

Of course I couldn't have done any of this without my best friend, amazing support system and beloved husband, Larry!

My heart and soul are filled to overflowing!

Because of all the festivals, we didn’t have our usual art class last week, and I have to admit, I needed the extra time to finish my assignment. You see, I’ve kind of fallen in love with an adorable hound that was adopted by a Facebook friend of mine. He recently posted the pup’s Doggy Day Care picture and well, with it being the ‘dog days of summer’ and all, I had to try to capture that sweet face. With his permission, I'm sharing the (colored pencil) portrait here (above.)

I hope I’ve done you proud, Fletcher.
